The new Battelle Environmental Center designed by Flansburgh for KIPP Columbus was among the projects recognized by the 2018 AIA Virginia Awards for Excellence in Architecture. The Virginia chapter of the American Institute of Architects evaluated submissions in five different categories, and Flansburgh's project at KIPP Columbus was one of the five projects honored as Merit Award recipients in the category of architecture.
Flansburgh's Vice President, Kelley Banks, officially received the award on behalf of the design team on November 9 in Richmond, Virginia. The award ceremony took place during Architecture Exchange East, a three-day-long gathering that gave its participants the opportunity to engage and dialog with latest award-winning architectural designs from the mid-Atlantic region.
