Celebrating Architecture Week in Boston: Inspiring the Next Generation of Designers
By official proclamation from Mayor Michelle Wu, April 13–19, 2025, has been recognized as Architecture Week in the City of Boston. This special week honors the impactful work of the Boston Society for Architecture (BSA) and its partners in K-12 Design Education, which introduces young learners to the power of design thinking and architecture.
The week began on a high note with the 33rd annual KidsBuild! event—a cherished, hands-on experience where hundreds of enthusiastic children, ages 5 to 13, came together to construct a model of Boston using recycled materials. This interactive program is just one of the many ways the Boston Society for Architecture (BSA) nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and community awareness in young minds.
We were proud to have volunteers from Flansburgh Architects participate in the event, offering their professional expertise in areas like Permitting, Material Selection, and Inspection. Among them was Kent Kovacs, who brought his son Tanner—once a KidsBuild! participant himself and now returning as a volunteer to help inspire the next generation. The duo was even featured on WBZ, sharing their reflections on what KidsBuild! means to them.
