Exploring Geothermal Innovation at the New Agawam High School and Early Education Center
On October 7, Superintendents from across the Bay State gathered for the Geothermal Drilling Tour at the construction site of the new Agawam High School and Early Education Center. This event highlighted the district’s forward-thinking investment in sustainable infrastructure. Key partners including Brightcore Energy, UndauntedK12, Eversource, the Town of Agawam, Agawam Public Schools, Leftfield Project Managers and Fontaine Brothers came together to explore the benefits of geothermal energy.
The event kicked off with remarks from Superintendent Sheila Martin, Agawam Mayor Christopher Johnson, and Massachusetts School Building Authority Executive Director Mary Pichetti that collectively reinforced the critical role of sustainable infrastructure in long-term planning, educational equity, and community investment.
Kent Kovacs, Senior Vice President of Flansburgh Architects and Principal in Charge of the project, joined the tour, contributing to the important discussion. The event featured an educational session and a walk-through of the active geothermal drilling site, where district leaders and project partners shared insights into the decision-making process behind adopting the innovative technology.
