New Boston Lyric Opera Space Opens
Flansburgh Architects recently celebrated the grand opening of the Boston Lyric Opera (BLO) & Community Studios, joining patrons and project partners for a debut performance of Song of the Earth. The project involved an adaptive reuse of a 14,000-square-foot former boxing gym within Midway Studios, transforming it into a vibrant anchor for the Fort Point Arts District. This new facility provides the BLO with a permanent, state-of-the-art home to host year-round performances, educational programs, and professional rehearsals.
The project included a 5,300 square foot immersive gathering space, 1,100 square foot rehearsal space, practice room, workspace, wine bar and back-of-house support areas. Improvements included, new acoustical separation assemblies, enhanced sound and lighting systems, AV infrastructure for projection and video wall installations, theatrical and aerial acrobatics rigging, new elevator for accessible community access, improvements of MEP/FP systems and new exterior openings to engage the neighborhood.
The opening of the new BLO & Community Studios has captured the attention of the Boston arts community. See the latest features and reviews here:
